In another post I talked about computer programming bringing you one step closer to creating your own original and professional quality game titles. In this post it’s animation vs animator game as I’m going to be talking more about the animation aspects themselves, the jobs, and the projection in the years to come particularly for multimedia artist and animators. Gaining skills in these professions will also help you get that much closer to creating your own original game titles by potentially landing you a good career in the gaming industry which may prove invaluable. Computer programming is extremely important to game making it’s true but you also need someone to design and animate the games as well. The global economy is on the verge of a massive shift and automation is on the rise, many jobs are going to be affected and we’re going to see the world around us change in some major ways so without further due lets get into it.
Animation & Animator The Lowdown
I think it’s fair that I talk a bit about what animation and animators are or at least give a proper definition of them. I know a lot of people out there already believe they know what animation is because it’s everywhere all throughout our society it has become an increasingly important part of our lives. I’m sure a lot of you who might be reading this already believe you know what the craft of animation is about so why am I talking about this. Well bear with me because it’s important to understand the proper definition of the terms of animation and animator before I go into the next sub topic.
Animation is a kind of process that involves designing, drawing, laying out photograph images of some kind and using different technologies to integrate those images in order to create the illusion of movement. An individual who has an understanding of this process and practices it to create works of art or fiction is an animator. The more of an understanding an animator has about the animation process the better an animator he or she will be. These skills are crucial to creating quality animations for different media including video games rather 2D or 3D animations.
This is what I mean when I say animation vs animator game because in order to create your own original and professional quality games you would need to have an in dept understanding of the animation process and be highly skilled with it. Its not just putting images together to create the illusion of movement like the average person might think, as I mentioned earlier animation is about designing, drawing, photographing imagery and not only putting that imagery together but putting it together in a way that makes sense. This is why animated movies take months and months to make even short animations take time because they still need to go through the same basic process. It also seems to be important for an animator to be able to work in different medias even though I’m focusing on video games which brings me to my next sub-topic.
Multimedia Artist And Animators
Multimedia artists and animators create two- and three-dimensional models, animation, and visual effects for television, movies, video games, and other forms of media. The Bureau says, Opportunities should be best for those who have a wide range of skills or who specialize in a highly specific type of animation or effect.” Still, as of January 2014, the U.S. was home to an impressive population of 68,900 multimedia artists and animators, making it the third largest career group in the world of Art and Design. CIA’s B.F.A. in Animation prepares you for a career in a number of positions, including: 3D Character Animator, Game Designer, Concept Artist, Storyboard Artist, Animator, and Independent Filmmaker. Multimedia artists and animators can develop these skills to enhance their portfolios, which can make it easier to find job opportunities.
Now when it comes to job outlooks multimedia artist and animators are perjected to have an 8% growth between now as of the writing of this article and 2026. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics that percentage number is about average in comparison to all other occupations so their is a demand for this field. In regard to median pay you can make around $71,000 a year or around $34.00 an hour. That’s pretty good money but I also need to mention that as time goes on more and more companies will look to hire animators from overseas at cheaper rates. When it comes to animation vs animator game I now that I mentioned earlier in the article how it might be helpful to have different skills to work in different media but specializing in one form of animation may also make you more appealing as a potential hire to companies. On that note you might be able to compete better with those overseas candidates who will work for cheap.
Currently most multimedia artists and animators need a bachelor’s degree in computer graphics, art, or a related field to develop both an impressive portfolio of work and the strong technical skills that many employers prefer. Multimedia artists and animators create two- and three-dimensional models and animation. The animation test is part of any respectable game animator hiring process, some animators at least have performed several throughout their career, (as well as create them for potential new hires); most recently testing for the now-defunct Kojima Productions LA studio and for Naughty Dog, landed some people jobs in California. Some of you might remember me mentioning in some earlier post how a portfolio will become more important than a degree for skilled labor in the coming years. I still believe in this based on the patterns I see and I’m very much sticking to what I say. If you don’t know how to do a portfolio now than you should learn how to do one.
While a degree may not be a strict job requirement, especially in the future, for the time being there are still some benefits to obtaining a degree, including the training a student receives in the complex software used to create video game animations. Multimedia artists will be needed to create animation for games and applications for mobile devices. Video game studios will require additional multimedia artists and animators to meet this increased demand. Since the demand for mobile game animations is definitely going to continue to rise if you can’t find a job immediately in your preferred field of gaming than you might be able to find work in the mobile field temporarily until things pick up in your preferred field.
Some multimedia artists and animators create their work primarily by using computer software or by writing their own computer code. This does apply to the animation process and it can be a good way you can build a portfolio for your dream job someday. I might talk more about that in another post let me know in the comments if you guys would like that.
CG Artist VS Animator & Conclusion
In animation vs animator game a multimedia artist or animator can be a CG artist and animator. In CG Artist VS Animator: the CG Artist realizes the animations that will be used within the game, in real time performance – eg character animation, while the Animator (cinematic) realizes the cinematics and videos that will end up around the game in a pre-calculated video format – eg the introductory cinematic trailer. LMU’s Animation school programs provide an understanding of both traditional and digital areas of animation, which are needed to apply for jobs in the film, television, video game design and many other industries. The B.F.A. in Game Art & Design is more designed towards creating 2D and 3D characters, animations, and environments for games.
The Animation & Digital Arts program offers you training in character design, visual effects, 3D computer graphics and modeling, interactive animator classes, science visualization, and experimental animation. I’m going to cut things right here guys this was running a bit long but I believe I covered everything I wanted to in this post. I can say more but I’m trying to keep all my post at a certain lent. Let me know in the comments what you guys think I would be happy to here your feedback as I’m sure at least a number of you reading this may already be animators or aspiring animators and have your own opinions and knowledge to share. Let’s discuss it down below.
